Osteopathic Care for Babies & Infants

Osteopathy for Babies in Leicestershire.

Gentle osteopathic care for unsettled babies in Leicester and the surrounding areas.

  • Birth is a natural process, but up to 25–40% of babies experience periods of being very unsettled for many different reasons.
  • If you’re worried about how your baby is settling or feeding, we can assess them gently and discuss how osteopathy may be able to help.

Birth is a natural process, but it’s still a big change for a baby’s body. Many babies go through a phase of being more unsettled, and this can be tiring and worrying for parents.

Unsettledness can show as fussiness, feeding struggles, difficulty settling or a baby who just seems “not quite comfortable”, even when everything is medically fine.

At Kibworth Osteopaths & Pilates, Emily uses gentle, baby-friendly osteopathic techniques to assess how your baby is moving and settling, and will talk through whether osteopathy and infant feeding support may help.

Kibworth Osteopaths & Pilates is based in Tur Langton, within easy reach of nearby villages and towns including Market Harborough, Kibworth, Fleckney, Foxton, Great Bowden, Desborough, Corby, Kettering, Oadby, Wigston, Uppingham and Oakham.

We offer gentle osteopathic checks and treatment for babies and children, welcoming families from across the local area who want calm, kind, professional support close to home.

What to expect in an initial Osteopathic appointment for your baby.

A full paediatric case history is taken, including pregnancy, birth, any concerns (such as feeding) and your baby’s general health. With your consent, a gentle osteopathic assessment then follows, which includes:

  • Checking your baby’s reflexes and screening for tongue-tie, with discussion and referrals if needed.
  • An osteopathic check, gently feeling for the body’s tiny natural movements (“involuntary motion”), which can be affected by the birthing process.
  • Advice on supporting your baby’s physical development, including tummy time and simple eye-tracking and head-movement exercises.
  • Most importantly, you’ll have time and space to ask any questions about your baby and their development.

Should any stresses or strains be felt, this will be fully discussed with you and treatment offered.

How do Osteopaths treat babies?

When treating babies, Cranial Osteopathy/techniques are preferred as they are safe, gentle and non-invasive.

Cranial Osteopathy involves the practitioner feeling the small natural changes of movement in the body called involuntary motion. This feels like tiny expansions and contractions of the body. Disturbance to an individual's involuntary motion can happen through the birthing process.

On average 3-5 appointments are enough, but this can vary depending on the extent of symptoms.

Training required to be a Cranial Osteopath.

Having completed her 4-year degree in Osteopathy in 2009, Emily then trained with the Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy at post - graduate level to study Cranial Osteopathy.

Emily has completed Osteopathic paediatric courses and continues to update and refresh her knowledge.

Blending Osteopathy and Infant Feed.

Emily is also a qualified infant feeding coach. When assessing and treating babies in her role as an Osteopath, a feeding assessment (whether you are breast feeding or bottle feeding) can also be carried out as part of an osteopathic appointment at no extra cost.

This means you get the best of both, as well as lots of useful tips from both an osteopathic and infant feeding perspective (often feeding position advice is also included to help your neck and shoulders too!)

Emily Says
Combining gentle, effective cranial Osteopathy and infant feeding coaching, I aim to provide comprehensive care for your baby and you.

Patient Information, Consent & Privacy

Osteopathy, like all forms of health care, offers considerable benefits, but may also include some level of risk. Research suggests Osteopathy is one of the safest forms of treatment (Bagagiolo et al, 2022). We require every patient to make an informed decision before beginning treatment.
